Compare the Streamlight Polytac and Wedge EDC flashlights. Learn key differences in power source, size, and programming to choose the right light for your daily carry.
Quick answer
Choose the Streamlight Polytac if you need a rugged, battery-powered tactical light with programmable modes; choose the Wedge for a slim, rechargeable EDC light with a unique thumb switch and momentary burst mode.
Power source and runtime trade-off
The Polytac runs on disposable CR123A batteries, which are widely available and easy to swap in the field. The Wedge uses a built-in rechargeable battery, saving you money on replacements but requiring access to USB charging. If you work in remote areas without power, the Polytac's replaceable batteries are a clear advantage. For everyday urban carry, the Wedge's rechargeable design is more convenient and cost-effective over time.
Size and carry style differences
The Polytac is a traditional cylindrical flashlight with a textured grip, designed for a secure hold even with wet or gloved hands. The Wedge is significantly slimmer and features a flat profile that slides easily into a pocket without creating a bulge. If you prioritize minimal pocket footprint, the Wedge wins. If you prefer a full-sized grip and the ability to use the light with gloves, the Polytac is the better fit.
Mode programming vs simplicity
The Polytac offers TEN-TAP programming, letting you choose between high/strobe/low, high only, or low/high modes. This flexibility is valuable for tactical users who need instant access to strobe or a specific brightness level. The Wedge keeps things simple with two modes: constant-on and THRO (Temporarily Heightened Regulated Output) for a quick 300-lumen burst. If you want customization, go with the Polytac. If you prefer a straightforward, intuitive interface, the Wedge is easier to use.
